National Service

• The Consulate General systematically conducts a census (Recensement) of young Algerians born in the USA and elsewhere between January 1^st, 2006 and December 31^st, 2006, and who are registered with its services.  
• Applicants born overseas must send the census file.  
• Failure to enroll may result in the loss of the right of exemption, deferment, or deferral of incorporation.
• All related documents can be filed in person without a prior appointment or by mail.
• Below are the procedures of regularization, military card rectification, and replacement provided by law.

EXEMPTION CARD REPLACEMENT

Citizens who lost their exemption card can request a replacement card (duplicate) by submitting  the following documents:

• Application form duly completed electronically on-screen, as handwritten forms may cause processing delays or issues;
• Two (2) recent passport photos 2x2 inches (51x51 mm) in size;
• One (01) copy of the exemption (if available);
• Loss report form (The form should be notarized if you mail your application).

CORRECTING ERRORS

In case there is an error on your exemption card, you can apply for a corrected one by submitting :

• Request for correction hand-signed letter (There is no specific form);
• Two (2) recent passport photos 2x2 inches (51x51 mm) in size;
• One (01) Original Algerian birth certificate (12S is not acceptable);
• Original deferment or exemption card (if available).

CENSUS (Resensement)

Required documents:

• Enrollment form duly completed electronically on-screen, as handwritten forms may cause processing delays or issues then hand signed by the legal guardian;
• One (01) Original Algerian birth certificate;
• Self-addressed stamped envelope to mail the census certificate.

NB: a census certificate is issued to the concerned people. However, those concerned and retarded during their census period are automatically listed according to the law.

DEFERMENT

Required documents:
