BIOMETRIC ID CARD

How to apply for it ?

Holders of biometric passports and a National Identification Number (NIN) can apply  for a Biometric, Electronic National Identity Card using the  following link: passeport.interieur.gov.dz/fr/DemandeCNIBE_FR/Demande.

Note: If you lose or forget your application number , you can get it again by re-applying at the MICL website. During the process, the website will provide a link to download or print your receipt again.

Non holders of biometric passports : can submit  for a Biometric, Electronic National Identity Card to the Consulate General of Algeria in New York (for those living within the 44 States).

Except children under 12, each applicant must be present in person at the Consulate General for photography and fingerprint procedure.

For children under 12, photography and fingerprint procedure is not required, and mailing their paperwork with a certified return envelope is sufficient .

Non holders of biometric passports must fulfill the following:
  • A copy of a valid consular registration card (Parent’s card for minors) (apply or renew).
  • Two (02) identity photos in compliance with ICAO standards (application will be rejected if photographs don’t meet requirements).
  • Original 12S Birth Certificate.
  • ID form to be filled and signed by each applicant or by parents for minors.
  • A copy of a proof of US residency (Green Card, valid student Visa or US passport).
  • A proof of employment for workers or school verification letter for students.
  • Original expired ID card , or a police report in case of ID lost or stollen or a sworn statement if applying for the first time.
In case of loss or damage of the old ID card, an additional tax of Twelve dollars and fifty cents  ($12,5) is required. Only USPS money orders are accepted (No cash, personal money orders, checks or credit cards). 

ID card Tracking

  • Using the tracking number on their receipt, applicants can check the status of their application on the following link 
  • If the mention “expedié” appears, applicants should follow up the tracking at Track your ID .

 Pick up and Delivery

When your Biometric ID Card is ready for pickup you can either take it from the Consulate General Location or request its mailing. In case of loss or damage of the old ID card, an additional tax of Twelve dollars and fifty cents  ($12,5) is required. Only USPS money orders are accepted (No cash, personal money orders, checks or credit cards). 

If the Biometric ID Card is to be picked up by the mother, a paternal authorization or a Court Order with full custody and guardianship issued by an Algerian Court is required. When the father is not an Algerian citizen, the mother is able to pick up the Biometric ID Card.

When walk-in bring:

  • The Receipt.
  • Original expired ID card , or a sworn statement if applying for the first time or a police report in case of ID lost or stollen.
When requesting it delivered by mail:
  • A notarized Sworn Statement,
  • Your Receipt,
  • Original expired ID card , or a sworn statement if applying for the first time or a police report in case of ID lost or stollen.
  • A prepaid Certified, Priority or Overnight mail return envelope.
  • Prepaid return envelopes MUST be certified mail with a tracking number.
  • Name of applicant MUST appear as the SENDER and RECEIVER of the mail.
  • We recommend USPS since DHL, FedEx and UPS do not collect mail form the Consulate General premises.
