International Women’s Day-
In presence of the Consul General Ms. Sabria BOUKADOUM and other Consuls General in New York City, Dr. Marnia Lazreg was awarded the Society of Foreign Consuls in New York (SOFC) Certificate of Recognition in a ceremony organized at the Bohemian Hall on March 5, 2018 to celebrate the International Women’s Day (IWD).
Ms. BOUKADOUM warmly congratulated Dr. Lazreg for this award and wished her more success in her professional career believing that all Algerian-American women have the potential to follow the same path of success as
Dr. Lazreg.A native of Algeria and a professor of sociology at the Graduate Center and Hunter College of the City University of New York, Dr. Lazreg was awarded this certificate in recognition of her pioneering work in Algerian Studies that won her numerous fellowships at prestigious US universities.
Dr. Lazreg is a Scholar who is recognized internationally for her cutting edge research in the fields of Women’s history, colonial and contemporary Algerian society. In addition to her academic work, she served as a lead-trainer in the United Nations Development Program “Gender and Development” and worked with the Swedish International Development Agency, as well as the UNESCO.
She also held the position of Gender Coordinator for Europe and Central Asia at the World Bank. Dr. Lazreg is a visiting lecturer in many universities around the world and mentors younger scholars in Algeria.
