ALGIERS- A total of 194 new confirmed Covid-19 cases, 171 recoveries and eight deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours in Algeria, said Tuesday, in Algiers, the spokesman of the scientific committee for monitoring the progress of coronavirus pandemic Djamel Fourar.
In a daily press briefing devoted to the progress of the Covid-19 pandemic, Fourar underlined that the total number of confirmed cases amounts to 8,697, i.e. 19.8% for 100,000 inhabitants, that of fatalities to 617 while that of recovered patients has reached 4,918.
The new fatalities were recorded in the provinces of El Oued, Ain Defla, Setif, Bouira, El Bayad and Laghouat, according to Fourar, adding that people aged 65 and over represent 66% of death cases.
Twenty nine provinces recorded rates below the national rate (19.8 cases for 100,000 inhabitants) while 21 others haven’t recorded any new positive cases this Tuesday.
The provinces of Algiers, Blida, Oran, Ouargla and Bechar reported the highest number of new confirmed cases in the last 24 hours, i.e. 57% of the total number of cases, he added.
The number of patients under treatment has reached 15,400, of whom 6,821 are cases confirmed by laboratory testing and 8,579 suspect cases diagnosed by radiology and scanner, said Fourar. A total of 31 patients are currently under intensive care, he said.
