APS – 01 June 2020

ALGIERS- Foreign Affairs Minister Sabri Boukadoum stressed Monday, in Algiers, the need to reach a “national consensus” on the country’s foreign policy.

During a working session with members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and the National Community Abroad of the People’s National Assembly (APN), chaired by Abdelkader Abdellaoui, chairman of the said committee, Boukadoum said that “the sectors of Foreign Policy and National Defence must be the subject of a national consensus within the country.”

“There must be no dispute about these two sectors whose prerogatives are under the authority of the President of the Republic, as is the case in all countries of the world,” he added.

To this end, the head of Algerian diplomacy recalled these principles, which are: “Respect for the sovereignty of countries, their independence and their territorial integrity, non-interference in the internal affairs of countries, respect for the rules of good neighborliness, peaceful settlement of conflicts and support for just causes.”
